Over the past 5 years, Core Project Advisory has facilitated risk workshops and conducted integrated cost and schedule risk analysis (CSRA) for several complex capital works projects and programs for our clients.

Cost and schedule risk analysis is a systematic process used to assess and quantify potential uncertainties that may impact a project’s budget and schedule. As a key component of project risk management, CSRA enables project teams to better understand the impact of risks, supporting more informed planning and decision-making.

Core PA’s integrated CSRA process is based on Monte Carlo simulation modelling to analyse duration uncertainty, cost sensitivities and discrete risk events. This approach generates probabilistic forecasts for project cost and schedule performance, providing a clearer picture of potential outcomes.

The modelling provides project teams with valuable insights into key drivers of cost and schedule uncertainty, highlighting areas where risks may need to be addressed. These insights can inform contingency planning, risk allocation strategies and overall project governance.

Our experience shows that the earlier the CSRA is undertaken in the project development lifecycle, the greater the opportunity to implement design, planning or delivery adjustments that improve cost and schedule certainty.
